made in the 80s.

i was born in the 80s. however, it was the latter end of the 80s; insomuch, i grew up in the 90s: the days of power rangers and the birth of cds and tucked-in shirts and pogs and poofy bangs and skip-its and "i know you are, but what am i?" et cetera.

most of the time, i'm glad i grew up in th 90s and not the 80s. i just don't think that i could pull of some of those fashions. while side ponytails are super duper fun, i'd just rather not tuck my pants into my socks.

but there are a lot of things that i love that came from the 80s. a LOT of things...

movies like girls just want to have fun, neverending story, better off dead, the goonies, bill and ted's excellent adventure, the labyrinth...

cartoons like transformers, strawberry shortcake, teenage mutant ninja turtles, care bears...

and the music, oh the music!! i can't even begin telling you how much 80s music i love. so i won't.
that list is extremely extensive.

but, i'm pretty sure that the best things that came out of the 80s were those music videos. oh my stars, i wish i lived in the 80s just so i could enjoy the good ol' days of mtv. "back when mtv was fun", my mother says. apparently we used to watch mtv as a family all the time. do i remember those days? unfortunately not. but i have a small connection to those days: my family taped an...episode?...airing?...a portion of it. i used to watch that tape all the time, before it got worn down to pretty much nothing. what a sad day...

but i'm pretty sure that's where my love of all music videos come from.
that particular tape included the music videos for
come on eileen -- dexy's midnight runners.
rock me amadeus -- falco.
99 luftballons -- nena.
somebody's watching me -- rockwell.
cars -- gary numan.
mickey -- toni basil.
safety dance -- men without hats.
i ran -- flock of seagulls.
too shy -- kajagoogoo.

all of which i highly recommend.
so, thanks to those good ol' days, we now have dvds of music videos, for such great bands as inxs, peter gabriel, the fixx, and, of course, michael jackson.
but we don't have dvds of my most favorite 80s music videos.
HOWEVER.
thanks to a recent exploration of youtube, i have rediscovered my favorites and made new favorites.

and i very strongly advise you to do the same.
ESPECIALLY if you're bored.

boredom buster of the day: go on youtube and look up some awesome 80s music videos. quick.
don't know any?
well, i made a list above. you should check those out. go indulge in some of the delights of my childhood.
also, here's a list of some of my favorites:

take on me -- aha.
you spin me round -- dead or alive.
love is a battlefield -- pat benatar.
we belong -- pat benatar.
love you tender -- danny and armi.
the different story -- peter schilling.
are we ourselves -- the fixx.
saved by zero -- the fixx.
in a big country -- big country.
every little thing she does is magic -- the police.
we'll be together -- sting.
total eclipse of the heart -- bonnie tyler.
don't change -- inxs.
shock the monkey -- peter gabriel.
sledgehammer -- peter gabriel.
games without frontiers -- peter gabriel.
beat it -- michael jackson.
money for nothing -- dire straits.
land of confusion -- genesis.
dancing in the street -- david bowie and mick jagger.

and, though technically it's not from the 80s...

pop! goes my heart -- hugh grant (from the movie music and lyrics).

the list definitely does not stop there. but i can't think of any more favorites at the moment. if there's a significant amount that i have forgotten, i shall add them. and if you come across some that are stellar that i haven't listed, pretty please share them with me.

in the meantime, this might be my all-time favorite:

men at work -- land down under.

PS: if you haven't seen it yet and you get the chance, please go see HORTON HEARS A WHO. i saw it the other day and i LOVED it. when you see it, please watch for the character named katie. she might have been my favorite part of that movie. i'll tell you my other favorite part, but you have to see it first. :D
